Based on a true story, The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe is an ITV drama written by Chris Lang and directed by Richard Laxton.

The series dramatizes the bizarre John Darwin disappearance case, where prison officer John Darwin faked his own death so his wife could claim the life insurance money and avoid bankruptcy. John and his wife, Anne, attempt to flee to Panama, but their adult sons suspect something is up.

The four part series aired in April 2022 with visual effects by Space.
